Top 5 Comic Movies

With the Thor movie coming out soon I thought I would put up a Top 5 of the best Comic Movies.

5. Judge Dreed

Don’t Judge (bad joke I know). I love this movie. I'm a sucker for post apocalyptic movies. I didn’t even know it was a comic when it came out. I just thought it was awesome. Yes I have seen it recently and yes it does not hold up well. It's like a guilty pleasure that I indulge every once in awhile. “I am the LAW!”

4. Superman

Simple, I believed a man could fly.

3. Mystery Men

Wow, this movie was funny as all get out. It was a perfect blend of misfits, goofballs, and wannabe heroes that end up saving the world. It was just fun and I enjoyed every moment of it. If you have not seen this movie buy, rent, or netflix it now.

2. Iron Man

Two reasons this made the cut. One- it was a great movie, not just a great comic movie. It shot Iron Man to superstar hero and kids everywhere wanted to be Iron Man. It also paved the way for the other Marvel movies. Two- it got my wife into comics. Not hard core, but enough that she enjoys my hobby and understands it.

1. Spider-Man

No big surprise here. My favorite comic hero on the big screen was mind blowing. I lost count how many times I saw that movie in the theaters. I saw it three times in one day. The second one was also fantastic but it can't live up to the first time I saw Spidey swinging through New York.

Top 5 Double feature- 80s Cartoons

Well I've been very behind on posting my Top 5 lists so I figured I would give you guys a two for one deal. The first list is a list that the Star Joes did on their podcast, that would be Top 5 cartoons I would like to see rebooted. The second list is Top 5 cartoons from my childhood. So lets get started.

5. The Centurions – 1985

This cartoon was just bad ass. It had three operatives that would shout “Power Extreme” and some wick gear would be teleported onto them. Very simple and lots of fun to watch. There was a Land, Sea, and Air hero, and out of the three my favorite was Ace the Air expert. I've always had a fascination with flying and my favorite color is blue, so no brainer there. My brother's was the land hero but his name escapes me at the moment. The show would always kick into high gear when ever they yelled out the command, and I would lean a little closer to the TV. I even had the action figures of each of the guys. The 80's was the golden age of boys action cartoons and these guys were some of the best.

Reboot

This would be an awesome reboot. Secret Specialist Agents that can have battle armor teleported on to them. How could this fail? This would be a great action cartoon.

4. Silver Hawks – 1986

This was in a simple way Thundercats in space, but I still loved it. The designs of the characters were just slick and modern and the theme song was one of the best. Each character had his or her own battle hawk, and as a kid I would day dream about having one of my own. I even had a name ready “Sky Talon”. My favorite of the Silverhawks was Quicksilver and his hawk companion Tallyhawk. He was the leader of the team but it was mostly because his name was cool that I liked him the most. My brother's was The Copper Kid not sure why but that was the one he liked. Now when I was older I watched a few of my old tapes before I got rid of my VHS player. With older eyes I still liked it and plan on getting it on DVD, but some of the things like “falling” in space and exposed skin on the uniform while in space had me laughing when I saw it again. The coolest thing I remember is sticking one of my Silverhawks in the microwave and watching the electricity arc all over the chrome body. I thought it was cool, my parents did not. On the plus side I got a battle damaged Quicksilver out of it.

Reboot

It was futuristic looking when it came out. Just update the stories and animation and we could have a real winner on our hands. Only problem is that the Silverhawks are a space police force and DC is putting out Green Lantern. There is enough of a difference between the two that it could work. All I ask is that the theme song starts with “Tallyhawk!”.

3. M.A.S.K. -1985

Man, who didn't wish their parents car would turn into an all terran vehicle with lasers and missiles. Cool (at the time) helmets and cars that would turn into a helicopter or a personal sub. Whats not to like. My brother and I had a few of the cars and stuff but most of the figures were lost with moving and playing outside. I don't really remember all the ones we had but my favorite was the Jet/Helicopter that the villain's leader had.

Reboot

This could really shine with modern cars and vehicles. Its a simple concept with secret agents watching the villains and the car turns into a flying car Nick Fury style. Throw in some battles and we have a show.

2. Transformers – 1984

Reboot because the current one sucks. Lets go back to the G1 stuff guys. It was great and everyone remembers them, just update it. Nuff said.

1. Robotech – 1985

This is my all time favorite cartoon. Now I want a reboot. Lets go back to the Macross saga and start over. Don't change it, just update it. I really hate when the take something great (Transformers) and make it suck. I don't want a story rewrite, it doesn't need one. Add to it, flesh it out, but they better not kill what made the show great. There was a real problem, they were being hunted down by an alien force with no support in sight. People died and even main characters died. This story showed the world that kids didn't need lasers that never hit anything or people that would jump to safety before the jet blew up. There was a real risk when they launched for a mission, they may not come back. Then there was the layer of romance. Ricked LOVED Lisa and cared for Minmay but he had to figure that out himself. They lived lives and it wasn't always a happy one.

Top 5 Childhood Cartoons and Characters

    5. Thundercats

Favorite Character: Lion-O, come on he got the Sword of Omens

    4. G.I Joe

Snake Eyes- Ninja that radiates awesome

    3. Transformers

Optimus Prime – Leader and hero that few could match

    2. Voltron

It was always the Black Lion

    1. Robotech

Rick Hunter: Ace pilot, cool name, and he got all the ladies.

I'm behind on my top 5 and a new blog is coming

I know, only two or three people read my blog but I'm going to get on a regular schedule. I've already put my blog dates on my calender, so I hope to stick to it. My blogs that I have on the list are my top 5, random thoughts, and a new one about the Anime I've finished watching. I wanted to put my thoughts on the Anime I'm enjoying because I just want to. With the podcast I can talk about my views on what I'm reading in comics and my gaming side has fallen to the way side because of time and money (come on guys gaming and comics are two very expensive hobbies to maintain).  But watching Anime is free with netflixs now so I get to watch as much as I want. Now I don’t watch much TV so I will do this one around once a month.

So my blogs should come out with my top 5 every two weeks and my anime review once a month. Random thoughts will just pop up when ever I feel like typing it up.

Top 5 Comic Movies I want made

With all the comic movies that came out last year and that are coming this year i figured I'd put out what I want to see next.

1. Iron Fist- I'm a sucker for a good martial arts film (40% of my movie collection consists of martial arts films), so seeing Iron Fist on the big screen is a no brainer. This character's background and story could easily be an action movie not just a superhero movie.

2. Green Arrow- Not one my favorites in DC (most of the time I just want someone to punch him, and a lot of the times they do), but he could be a modern Robin Hood. Being a hero for the everyday man, taking down the evil big business, and banging hot blondes. This movie cant fail, well it could but they would have try and fail. They could even joke why a bow over guns.

3. The Darkness- This is just a cool character concept. A mob hit-man that can create anything out of the shadows. Like an evil Punisher with the powers of Green Lantern but cooler. With CGI being fantastic in movies, Darkness can be done.

4. Doctor Strange- Love this character and I think he could make a great movie. Magic has always fascinated me so I always gravitate towards them. Doc has so many layers, starting out as an A-Hole doctor who falls from his high horse, then rising up to be the protector of the world. Who would not like the Doc after that.

5. Superman (reboot)-This last slot was a close one between Black Panther and Superman. In the end it's Supes. Some may understand the feeling that I get when the theme song starts playing. When that happened in the last movie and he saved the plane from crashing I thought "man this movie will rock". Once that was over the movie started to suck. So many may understand the disappointment that I still have for not getting a Superman movie worthy of my childhood memories.

Honorable Mention-Black Panther He is just bad ass.

Top 5 whatever! (comic podcasts)

I'm going to start a simple blog about my top 5 anything. My first one will be The Top 5 podcasts that I enjoy.

1. Star Joes - I don't listen to many podcasts on the release date but this one is always a must listen when it comes out. Chuck and Ryan are fantastic hosts that are always fun and full of energy.

Starjoes.com

2. The Legion of Dudes - One of the first podcasts that I tried and really enjoyed. I enjoy their over all shows when they pick a subject and have an open discussion. Some awesome guys to talk too and they always seems to cover some of my favorite stories and books.

HHWLOD.com

3. Comic Geek Speak - One of the biggest if not the biggest comic related podcast out there. What I love most about their podcast are the topics. When they have a discussion, its more about what they experienced and how they feel about the subject. Also it's out 5 days week.

comicgeekspeak.com

4. Geek Savants - These guys are just funny. They sometimes talk about comics but most of the time it's an off the wall subject.

thegeeksavants.podbean.com

5. Flash Back - This podcast is a monthly review of the Flash comic from DC. I like to listen to them because their reviews are honest. They don't go nuts over everything Johns writes on the Flash and they don't go gaga over the Flash just because it's the Flash.

So there you have it my first top 5 list.
