Comics You Should be Reading, but Probably Aren’t Part 4

1. iZombie

This book is written by Chris Roberson and the artist is Michael Allred. Micheal Allred’s art is amazing as always and really makes the book. I really liked his artwork on Madman and this is reminiscent of that. So far three issues have come out, and they have all been good so far. The book is about the main character named Gwen Dylan, she is a zombie that works as a gravedigger in the town of Eugene, Oregon. She has lots of unusual friends in this town as well. They include a ghost named Ellie and were-terrier named Scott. Yes I said were-terrier, he is basically a werewolf but turns into a terrier like werewolf. I found this part very hilarious, he is a very funny character. The main focus of the book is that Gwen has to eat one brain a month so that she doesn’t revert into a normal mindless zombie. The problem with this is that she gets all the memories of the person who’s brain she eats. She eats the brain of a guy that just got buried at the beginning of the issue and it turns out he might have been murdered and she gets a vision of a house. I don’t’ want to ruin much else of the book, but they are basically a supernatural team of detectives in a way. Scott helps them with intel and Ellie is ghost so she pretty much does recon and spying. I highly recommend this book for the artwork alone. Head to your store and pick this book up now, plus the first issue is only a dollar.
2. Hotwire: Deep Cut

This book is written and drawn by Steve Pugh, but him and Warren Ellis both collaborated on the idea of the book. This is the second series for this book and it is published by Radical, which is a very good publisher. If you have never read a Radical book before, I highly suggest you pick some up. The artwork in the books is amazing and most have hand painted art in them. Their books are a little more expensive, but are worth it because of all the content you get. The basic premise for this book is that 50 years ago the dead stopped moving on and were becoming Blue-Light ghosts. These ghosts graze off the electromagnetic waste of the billions of wirelessly connected devices we all have. These ghosts can cause problems and go after the living, which is way the police have a force dedicated to dealing with them. The main character is Alice Hotwire and she is an exorcist with the metro police. Exorcists are the main people in the force that deal with these ghosts and she is the youngest person to ever be an exorcist. You don’t really have to read the first series to understand this one cause they recap it in the beginning of the issue, but I would read the fist series which is available in a softcover and a hardcover trade. This story is taking place six months after the events from the first book where Alice saved the world from the mass of Blue-Lights. She is still heavily affected from the events and circumstances that happened in the end of the first series. I won’t give any details of it in case you want to read the first series. She has been absent from the force and ignoring everyone since. This series is going to focus on her back-story more and how she became an exorcist. This is only the first issue in the three issue series and it just came out last week so it should be easy to find in your local shops. I highly recommend you seek this one out.
