Ep2 - The FlickChart Game

Have you been to FlickChart.com? It's a cool movie site where two movies are put head to head and you have to pick which one is better. Is Forest Gump better than Superbad? Is Aliens better than Happy Gilmore? You decide on FlickChart. Well, the ETM crew takes a stab at it and makes their list at FlickChart.com/ExploringTheMultiverse

Top 5 Comic Movies I want to see

Thought I'd bite on Bill's idea and share my ideas for some cool films:

5. Iredeemable: It would be so cool. Simplify the story slightly, tell it through flashbacks, and really play up the violence. Maybe Gerard Butler as the Plutonian and Wilmer Valderama as Samsara.

4. The Flash: I'm actually hopeful for a Barry Allen reference in the GL movie. I heard John was writing a script for it (Flash.)

3. Wonder Woman: The character has alot of history and deserves a chance to have a good movie. I'd make the costume like the standard, but a little less stripperish.

2. Preacher: Vertigo classic would be a kick ass dark flick. DC seems to enjoy bringing their Vertigo books to the big screen (Contantine, Losers) and I think this one would be pretty good. People won't even realize they are watching a comic movie.

1. JLA: Not outside the realm of possibility in a few years, assuming they make a few other individual movies.

Honorable mention: Pete Wisdom and MI-13: Would be a blast. John the Skrull!

Punisher Max!!!

I just started reading the trades for the Marvel Max series The Punisher and all I can say is wow. For those unfamiliar with Max, it is the mature imprint of Marvel. That means profanity, sex, nudity, extreme graphic violence, and other stuff not suitable for the mainstream titles. I've gotten into a few other Max series in the recent past, including Supreme Power (a new take on the Squadron Supreme), and the Hood: Blood from Stones, which is basically the Hoods origin and I believe his 1st appearance. These Max books are fantastic as they are able to go all out with the stories and not hold back. At the same time you get a great story of the Marvel universe, not some whacked out indie book that does violence and swears for the sake of violence and swears. The Punisher itself is fantastic. My issue over the years with that character is that he does not seem to fit in the Marvel U 100% of the time. He's a great charcter but by no means is he a "superhero." He's at best an extremly dangerous and unbalanced vigilante, but probaly could be better described as a serial killer. That does not fit well side to side with Spider-man and Captain America. Personally, I don't like to see Frank Castle rocking a jetpack or a laser gun, fighting Stilt Man or the Shocker. I want to see him fighting drug dealers, pimps, the mob etc. Real bad guys, not costumed goofballs. Thats what this series invokes. I'm not 100% sure that this book exists outside the Marvel U, but it definitley is not focusing on or (so far for me) even mentioning the capes and cowls. I recomend this book to fans of crime books and for people who like gritty stories of heroes without the fluff and flash of mainstream superhero books like Superman, Spider-man, or even Batman.

Make Mine Marvel Part 2

So I added my first Spider-man (Amazing Spider-Man) and X-Men (Uncanny, X-Force, X-Men) books to my pull list and I feel pretty good. Not guilty at all. If anything bad or horrible ever happens to Lucas, I'm ready to step up as the new Marvel guy. Hopefully he'll be fine. Probaly will.

Make mine Marvel

Anyone else think Marvel is killing it right now compared to DC. DC's best stuff now is Batman and Robin, The Return of Bruce Wayne (both Morrision), Grounded in Superman is pretty good so far as is the Lex Luthor story in Action. Marvel's Avengers, X-Men, and Spider-man books though are far superior. Grim Hunt is pretty wild, especially. Maybe I'm a little biased recently cause I've been getting caught up on the Ultimate Spider-man and other Ultimate stuff. Great stuff if you have never read.

AVENGERS!

I just wanted to share how much I am loving the Avengers right now. In the last few days I've read Avengers Prime #1, Avengers #1, Secret Avengers #1, and Ultimate Avengers #2 & 3. Great reading all around. It's good to see this team coming back to the forefront of comics and in a universe usually dominated by Spider-Man and the X-Men, they sometimes get lost in the shuffle. Back to greatness with some of the most solid storytelling in the industry, I recommend these books to any comic fan, even if you are not principally a Marvel fan. This is a great jump on point for new readers. Can't wait for what comes next.
